Soreness in the muscles after workout is caused by lactic acid. As lactic acid builds up in muscles and creates the soreness that we associate with overexertion. Even if you do stretching and warming up exerices - that is supposed to take care of the soreness - the stretching and warming up exercise do not always work all of the time.
You can use bromelain before your muscles seize up and get a jump on the healing process. Bromelain is an enzyme derived from pineapple.
Bromelain picks up all the debris floating around your damaged muscle. What happens is that bits of muscle fiber actually break off. When this occurs, you have tiny scraps of protein that may clog the muscle and cause pain and inflammation.
Because bromelain is an enzyme, bromelain will help by breaking down these proteins and digesting them. By doing this, the waste products are eliminated and the pain and stiffness will go away.
I suggest that you take 500 milligrams of bromelain three times a day between meals until the pain goes away. Do bot take bromelain with your food. If you do take it with your meals, bromelain's protein-digesting powers will work on your food, not on the muscle debris that's prompting your pain and inflammation. You can buy bromelain at your local store.
In addition, make sure to check the product label to make sure that it specifies a strength of to 1,800 to 2,400 milk-clotting units (mcu).
For all-over muscle pain, you can also take ginger. Ginger is kind of like a home-style ibuprofen.
Ginger is well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger like bromelain also contains an enzyme that can break down protein. This enzyme is called zingibain.
In addition, ginger also has various antioxidants which help neutralize the free-roaming, unstable molecules called free radicals that play a role in causing inflammation. Ginger is also sold as a supplement. Ginger can be found in either tincture or capsule form.
In addition, your muscles produce more free radicals when you exercise. Thus, you should take supplements of vitamins C and E. Taking these vitamins will help to minimize the pain the following day after your workout.
Vitamin C it is to be noted, is needed to help make collagen. Collagen is the "glue" that holds muscle cells together. Thus, the body needs to make more collagen to repair the damaged tissue such as a sore muscle.
Vitamin E also helps to reduce muscle soreness, prevent cellular damage, and repair muscle tissue.
Siberian ginseng, is a herb that helps the adrenal glands produce more stress hormones. Those stress hormones help your body recover more quickly from the effects of strenuous or muscle-straining exercise. As a general rule, you may have to take Siberian ginseng regularly for about a month before it begins to yield benefits. However, clinical studies do suggest that ginseng improves athletic performance.
