Herbs were used in the old days to cure insominia for a better sleep. However, under the so-called modern medicine there have been an onslaught of chemicals and sedatives to help one get a better sleep. People using the modern methods, however, have also had unwanted side effects. Thus, people have started going back to herbs has a better choice towards a better sleep.
Valerian root is the best herb to take towards a better sleep. It is "the safest and most effective sleep aid with no side effects," says British herbalist Dr. Malcolm Stuart. It is suggest to drink it about thirty minutes before going to bed. You can drink it by using one to two teaspoons of the dried root to make a sleep-promoting tea. Valerian causes no heavy feeling the day after unlike alot of drugs. In addition, with valerian you will not get not develop a dependency on this herb like you do with alot of drugs.
Another herb that you can use to get better sleep is catnip. Not only is this herb used as a cure for insomnia, but catnip is also thought to help nervousness, anxiety, and even migraines. Like valerian, catnip it is suggested to drink it. It is recommended that you use one to two teaspoons of the dried herb for one cup of boiled water and set aside to infuse for around ten minutes. However, it is highly recommended to not boil the herb along with the water since this may deactivate some of its important ingredients.
Chamomile is another herb used to get better sleep. The usual dosage for this herb is two teaspoons of dried chamomile flower for every cup of tea. Yes, this herb is also drinkable.
Another herb that is used for better sleep is lavender. This herb, lavender, can also be a very soothing brew at bedtime and a putting few drops of its oil in your bubble bath has a similar calm inducing effect. In addition, lavender is also rubbed onto your skin during a massage by many in that profession. And its flowers and seeds are often stuffed into your pillows by many hotels.
While the herbs above are discussed to getting a better sleep, these herbs may be used alone. Finally, these herbs can be used to make a herbal cocktail. Just try blending valerian with chamomile, catnip, or chamomile. Add a small amount of the natural sweetener for flavor if you find the taste a bit too strong to your liking. Do not drink excessively to spare yourself from sleep-disturbing trips to the bathroom.
Although, herbs can get to to a better sleep, having an exercise regimen, proper stress management - such as using Provanx, and sticking to a healthy diet made up mostly of fruits and vegetables is the best way to get a better sleep aside from consuming your favorite herbal cocktail.
